Ministry of environmental protection: China is promoting legislation related to heavy metal pollution prevention and control.

Li Ganjie, Vice Minister of the Ministry of environmental protection, said at a press conference held by the Information Office of the State Council on 3 July that China is pushing forward the prevention and control of heavy metal pollution in the light of the high incidence of heavy metal pollution.

Li Ganjie said that the heavy metal pollution situation in China is rather severe. 14 heavy metal pollution incidents occurred last year, 9 of which were blood lead events. 7 cases occurred from 1 to May this year, all of which were blood lead problems.

These heavy metal pollution incidents seriously threaten the health of the people and affect social stability.

Li Ganjie said that the progress of legislation should be accelerated in the prevention and control of heavy metal pollution, including heavy metal pollution.

He disclosed that the relevant legislative work is in the process of actively promoting.

According to the recent situation of frequent occurrence of blood lead events, the Ministry of environmental protection issued the notice on strengthening pollution prevention and control of lead-acid batteries and regenerated lead industry. It will harnessfully regulate lead-acid battery industry and regenerated lead industry with the most stringent means. First, it will stop all construction projects approval in areas where major lead pollution incidents occur. Two, it is imperative for all illegal enterprises that have environmental problems and hidden dangers to stop production and rectification. Three, the main leaders of these regional governments who have accidents must assume responsibility; four, all areas where major and special pollution incidents occur will immediately cancel all environmental protection.

In addition, Li Ganjie said that the State Council has officially approved the "12th Five-Year plan" for the comprehensive prevention and control of heavy metal pollution, and all localities and departments are actively promoting the implementation.
