In 2015, Nicholas Daley founded its own namesake in London.

Men's wear

brand

In 2016, Japan's fashion department store Gallery Beams and Nicholas Daley Daley also found Japanese street culture magazine Champ to collaborate with a hand-made limited edition brochure.

Therefore, according to the perspective of Gallery Beams, Nicholas Daley will be a model for expressing culture in fashion.

As a matter of fact, the new men's wear brand is not fancy, the color is black, white and brown, but it gets rid of the inherent pattern of the English style, and the clothes and pants have an indescribable aesthetic feeling that "I don't know where the cool comes from".

"When I was young, I grew up in Leicester. Such a growth environment gave me a lot of opportunities to get in touch with different cultures very early. There is no doubt that this will affect my vision."

Nicholas Daley said, "then I lived in Tottenham for 5 years, a vivid community with different people living there."

Nicholas Daley mentioned Leicester is a multi cultural gathering place in the UK, where India Sikhs, Somali people and people from the Caribbean area live there.

And this growing experience is just him.

Design

The source of the idea - he wants to reflect the past and present of British subculture through design, and express the multicultural culture of Britain, especially subculture.

The 2015 First Beat series quoted African culture.

"In Africa, there is a drum called Djembe, which has been brought to the Caribbean from West Africa and has great influence on Caribbean music, especially reggae.

I have always been influenced by Caribbean culture, but I expect to see a collision between African and Caribbean cultures. "

Nicholas Daley said.

Before setting up this menswear brand, Nicholas Daley studied Punk's Gavin Watson.

While studying at Saint Martin, he studied The Black House carefully, which gave a detailed account of the true situation of the black community in the Caribbean on Holloway road in London, England.

In addition, he also had a chat with the close photographer Dennis Morris of reggae music legend Bob Marley.

By the time Bob Marley died in 1973, Dennis Morris was taking pictures of him.

Generally speaking, the birth of subculture is under a certain political background.

In twentieth Century, punk quickly accepted the fashion expression and lifestyle of black Caribbean living in England in the 60 years of the twentieth Century.

Later, music brought black and white youth together.

"In the current situation, all kinds of subcultures and the fashions that they bring are blended together.

Nowadays, in our era of life, anyone can touch the things they want to contact in any way. The boundaries between originality and imitation are blurred and difficult to distinguish.

However, since there is a mainstream culture, there must be an attached subculture.

This is about affiliation and resistance. "

Nicholas Daley said.

Some research results have been used in the design of Nicholas Daley, such as jeans with "unfinished" feeling, big lapel jacket, corduroy and denim fabrics that are popular in the UK in the age of 70.

The spring and summer series in 2016 shows the integration of various cultures in the Tottenham area, which focuses on the West African community.

The series is designed in West Africa with a wide robe and a colorful short sleeved pullover.

The 2015 year old autumn and winter series is inspired by Don Letts, a symbolic figure of Asian culture.

At the time of Saint Martin's study, Nicholas Daley was attracted by a photo of Don Letts.

In that photo, Don Letts was surrounded by a group of punk youths riding his motorcycle in leather coats.

This picture makes Nicholas Daley feel the cross between punk and reggae, and these two kinds of subcultures fascinate him.

Nicholas Daley saw the picture and wondered, "who is this black guy who is wearing a strasfal lock and surrounded by a group of white punks?" and with these curiosity, Nicholas Daley contacted Don Letts. The original plan was to further promote his study of the subculture.

No one thought that the last Don Letts became part of the fashion design of the brand.

"These first-hand information is helpful to my research.

Of course, Don Letts is an important part of my research.

He is a cultural sign. He was the leader of punk and Reggae in England in the 1970 years, and he brought these two forms of music to England.

Nicholas Daley said.

Don Letts is not only the Mousika of Nicholas Daley, but also the two quarter of spring, summer, autumn and winter in 2015.

"Don Letts has always been an influential figure in British youth culture. Now he is still working with creative talents from different fields.

I remember he mentioned to me that in the 1970 years of the age of ACME, he worked in London for punk and reggae musicians to be famous for his clothing. The shop was hung with pictures of different fashions in - which shows how he expressed himself.

It's like a reincarnation to see him appear in my fashion creation again. "

Nicholas Daley said.

In addition to the design, Nicholas Daley is now working with the comedy channel Throwing Shade, podcast, which likes to discuss topics such as women's rights, gay rights and popular culture.
